A couple weeks ago, I had the great honor of photographing performance artist Holly Bass for her dance marathon at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. I shoot for the gallery, but was excited when they asked me to shoot Holly, who I am blessed to call my friend. Suspended in a plexiglass box over the entrance to the museum, Holly danced for 7 hours for her piece called Moneymaker, in which she straps two gold basketballs to her butt as a commentary on how the media portrays black womens' bodies. This moving piece of work was complementary to the gallery's show 30 Americans, which highlighted 31 black artists' work. I was very moved by Holly's ability to infuse a sense of fun and style into the serious nature of the ideas behind her performance in a way that made the piece accessible to everyone there. It was beautiful, so many thanks to Holly to having me. Enjoy!

Gold Pants? Why Not!
OK, fine! You asked and I'll deliver...here's a little outfit post with photos snapped by Cheralee Lyle.
Last week I popped in to catch the end of the CapFABB event, which was hosted at Cities with impeccable help from BrandlinkDC and their client H-Blooms. While I would have loved to make a fascinator out of flowers at their DIY table, I opted to catch up with blogger friends and relax. I did add an orchid to my hair, but come now, any floral headpiece situation, no matter how large, could not compete with GOLD PANTS. These are a new acquisition and I just love the Art Deco feel. I bought them on a shopping excursion with Eliot Payne of Accoutre when I was on an explicit mission for only a white button-up shirt seriously nothing else, so OF COURSE I walked away with metallic pants instead of demure basics. Ha! I wouldn't have it any other way! I felt bad for the beautiful blooms left at the end, so I adopted them. I love how they add a gentle, feminine feel to my outfit. Add a houndstooth rock and roll bomber from Barcelona, vintage mink, and my signature octopus necklace and I was good to go.
Here is a photo booth I did with fellow photographer Denisio of The Ravenous Creator.

GoKateShoot for Washingtonian: Necessary & Proper Editorial
Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing the stylish founders of Necessary & Proper, a DC style blog devoted to what I'm roundly enjoying calling high-prep with a twist. Van and Lauren and I had a blast photographing their color-infused wardrobes. So much fun! Though I am very much the opposite of preppy (I own 3 pairs of motorcycle/combat boots), I appreciate their attention to detail, impeccable eye for color, and sense of whimsy. Van used to work for Ralph Lauren corporate and Hermes, which influenced the evolution of his style. Lauren tends to go for classic, chic pieces that she styles in a fresh, modern way.
Anyway, less talking more photos. Don't worry, there are LOADS of them here, I just couldn't pick so I posted them all. ENJOY!
