Jake Dilley & The Color Pharmacy

Last Friday myself and the crew popped up to The Dunes for a little open bar pregame action before setting off for the art marathon of Art All Night and Submerge. In our devotion to artisan bourbon and gin, we met the charming band JAKE DILLEY & THE COLOR PHARMACY. They came out and walked around the space giving the boozy audience all the unplugged they could handle, and I took some snaps for this fabulously bearded gentlemen.

(As some of you know, my being from Vermont means that I have a deep love of well-groomed facial hair, mustaches in particular. This has been documented to much hilarity here and here.)

ANYWAY. The guys were rad, I told them all about the crazy art happening, and then today I saw that the talented Ben Droz photographed Jake Dilley and he's on Brightest Young Things photo round-up. LOVES IT!! Spread art. Listen to their music, they rock. And start prepping for No-Shave November.

Spotted: Out at Art All Night Wonder Bread Factory and Submerge

Per usual, I found myself out and about with the art set. Here are a few snaps photographers Ben Droz (of Brightest Young Things) and 'Lui Li caught of me throughout the night. Ben's photo includes my partner in crime, the lovely actress Mundy Spears. Who says DC isn't stylish or artistic?

Friday Transit

Here are some cool little snaps from last Friday...the first two are from the Beckett & Lynch: A Celebration (Look at those whales! So much fun!), and the third is NYC artist Sean Noyce, who was in town for the e(merge) art fair. I couldn't have asked for better timing on that train; we were chatting and getting ready to shoot when it pulled up. Despite the low light, I got one sharp photo off, and that's all I needed. Thank you, WMATA, for providing the perfect backdrop for Sean's style.

Beckett & Lynch: A Celebration

Last weekend I took photos of a performance art piece entitled Beckett & Lynch: A Celebration. The artists, Eric Rubin and Sahriel Lehyani, describe it by saying, "This latest show from Sad Grizzly Theater Company is two friends' ritual celebration of the artists Samuel Beckett and David Lynch.  That they know little to nothing about either artist can hardly staunch the tide of their longing for connection, love, and salvation.  Ritual song accompanies comedic, heartfelt vignettes.  The audience will not be spared involvement."

That was all true, but what that description fails to mention is how charming and utterly hilarious the vignettes are!! It's great! Revolving around the antics of a few pairs of distinctive characters, the audience cannot help but be endeared by the genuine nature of each show. The passion and talent of the actors holds even the most ADD audience captive, in part through the wild solicitation of audience participation as the pseudo-improv show engages and confronts everyone in the room.

I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the artists for having me and allowing me to photograph their lovely expression; it was a joy. More photos to follow

I know I'm on repeat, but I love photographing actors; look at how physically communicative these guys are! So great!

The Dandy

Last night I had the pleasure of meeting Eric Channing Brewer, founder of DC style institution Dandies and Quaintrelles. As any stylish person in DC knows, D&Q puts together the Tweed Ride and Seersucker Social, among several other events that foster a quirky and sophisticated vintage style. For a style photographer interested in how people choose to express themselves and identify with their heritage in a visual way, D&Q is pure gold. Here are a few shots I took of Eric, who was by far the best-dressed person at the event I was photographing last night.

Trust me, I had a little moment when I saw his socks.

We also chatted about partnering together to create some style-oriented art...I love to work collaboratively and have the opportunity to learn from other artists in a direct way.

Charming Actor

My dear friend Greg came to Washington from NYC to see me and take some photos. He is working as an actor, and I love to shoot people who are so used to being physically communicative. My friend Honeycutt, a fellow actor, came out to help creative direct the shoot, and we had a blast! Isn't he just so James Dean?  Here's a teaser.

Submerge: Part I

Last Thursday after shooting the DC Here Now party, I made my way with some of the ReadySetDC crew to hit up the opening of No King Collective's space Submerge for a little late night action.

Here are the photos, which include some of the the artists, the chef Tom Constantino (who made amazing pulled sandwiches!), the lovely Miss Elise of It's Vintage Darling, and loads of stylish visitors. I bopped around asking people to pose in front of their favorite piece, which was a great way to see the amazing art from a fresh perspective. I went to the party at the space on Saturday as well, so keep an eye out for those pics too!

Cheers!

DC Here Now Party

This past week I had the pleasure of attending the DC Here Now party. Hosted by friendly street photographer Emily, attendees ranged from friends and family to subjects and fans of her site. I had a blast meeting other DC style addicts, including Annie Lee and her assistant Sarah of Pretty People Vintage. We retired to eat red velvet cake and cocktails at the end of the evening...what a lovely close to a fashionable evening.
