Kate Mullan

Here are a few shots I took of fashionista Kate Mullen at the recent Steel Plant Gallery opening. I loved the wild print of her dress with the graphic art and took a few shots to document. This mix of prints is fantastic and I love seeing how creative people get. Do you plan your outfit based on the space that you'll be in?

Sorry for the delay... I've been on the road a lot recently doing a lot of cool new stuff. On top of working for Marvel Entertainment in Manhattan, I have been zipping to and fro interviewing for jobs. I graduate from university in May and am really excited at the wide array of jobs out there. The search and application and interview process is grueling, sure, but fun at the same time. I've enjoyed the challenge, and interviewing is my reward since I love talking to new people so much! With all that wildness, I am happy to report that I have offers and will be relocating in June 2011... where to I am not quite ready to share just yet. A girl's gotta have a little sense of mystery, no?

In the mean time, I'll be designing my apartment and trawling through vintage stores for really unique stuff. I have some really great vintage pieces from the 50's/60's that I am excited to incorporate and bring up to date. You know I'll be strategically mixing prints in the space too!

What are your favorite design sites?

Chanel Sunnies

Another attendant of the Steel Plant Gallery opening this past week, Danielle Loren. I coerced her into sharing her fabulous new Chanel sunnies. She's moving to London; don't you think the round frames are so perfect for a little international jet-set action? I love the pearl detail too...not too much but such a nice secret touch. Very tasteful. I love the graphic art in contrast with her classic Hollywood look. Fabulous!

A Chic Fox Snow Day

Here are some out-takes from The Chic Fox's most recent style post that I shot. I returned to New York from Florida early this week only to be subjected to, as my friend put it, 'winter pooping out a last inch of slush'. I've had enough! Winter needs to give it up!

It's time for spring, and little skirts and sandals.

Fashion Dept.

I had such a wonderful day! Got lunch with the editor of the newspaper Thomas Lotito (photos of that to follow), found out good news about future employment (HIRE ME! haha), went to a gallery opening, and had a beautiful home-cooked Italian meal by one of my dear friends. Can you ask for more than that?! Oh yes! I also did four photo shoots (what happens when I carry my camera with me). Bliss!

In my down time I quickly shot this impromptu one with the fashionable Laura Knight, who I caught on her way to work at the Mill Street Gallery. I love how she mixes prints, and obviously this shoot is styled by her.  Despite us doing a guerilla shoot in the middle of the fashion work room, no one even blinked to see her posing for me on the table. #normalpeople do things like this, right?

In case there isn't enough shameless self-promotion on the blog and you've somehow not quite grown tired of my little quips and comments, follow me on Twitter by clicking the button on the top of the page or searching @GoKateShoot.

The Keys in 6

I recently went to the Keys for a little R&R battery recharge. These six photos sum up the trip. The first is of my brother and his awesome graphic style.

NEW SITE, NEW LOOK!

Hey friends! I am proud to announce the launch of the new site, GOKATESHOOT.blogspot.com, which features all of your favorite content with a new name and look. Please enjoy, and let me know what you think of the new stuff...love it, hate it, I want to know! Nothing is permanent, and I have the attention span of a gerbil, so I'm happy to change things up every now and then.

You can also find me on Twitter at here, and I would love to hear from you! I can't guarantee witticisms or wisdom, but still. There it is. Tweet me. Do it.

I'm about to start working on a very exciting project in NYC, but I can't talk about it yet. You know I love to share, but a girl's entitled to a little bit of mystery, don't you think?

Meanwhile, here are some alternative photos from a recent shoot with the chic fox. Yum.

DSG: Hilary

I shot the Marist College production of Dog Sees God last week and did a series of character portraits. Here is the first, featuring the pyromaniac played by the lovely and talented Hillary Sterling. I'm not a huge fan of shooting theater but I love shooting actors, so these portraits were a nice balance.

Political Protest

In light of the recent scandal at Marist College, I am posting these photos in protest. By now, many of you have read the article on the front page of today's Circle, which can also be found headlining their website here. Despite being the favored candidates for student body President and Vice President, James Napoli and Myriah Anderson were cruelly denied judicial review and disqualified from the race. The offense? Turning in a form 6 minutes late. Their opponent also broke a rule about advertising too early, but since his disqualification would also implicate the son of an administrator, it was overlooked. Instead of inspiring qualified and talented students to run for student government and act as positive roll models for their peers, Marist College administration is showing just what kind of corruption is involved in back-room politics. For a university that touts an Ethics Week every semester, this is inexcusable. Because of the current system, no other student is able to run; the application process is closed. In a blow to democracy and the student voice on campus, a single candidate will run unopposed in nearly every major position, including student body President.

There will be a petition circling campus over the next couple of days to allow other students to run. I encourage you to read it and sign it. We cannot let the corruption within the administration go unfettered any longer.

Curious to see who your President and Vice President would have been? We took these photos a few days before the election was set to start.

James and Myriah have been involved in SGA and many other organizations on campus. Chances are that you know them, have met them, or are friends with them. You see them out at local watering holes, parties, and know they are deeply involved with Marist socially.

James is bilingual (English, Spanish) and is currently working on his third language, French. Myriah may seem familiar; she is known around campus and in the local news media as 'that girl who was in Egypt'. Myriah was studying abroad in Cairo during the riots and has spoken extensively about her experiences there. She too is bilingual, speaking English and Arabic. She hopes to return to Jordan for the summer to continue her studies on the Gilman Scholarship she received, which is the undergrad version of a Fulbright.

Protest. Let your voice be heard. Share this with you friends, post it to your walls. Sign the petition. Ask James or Myriah for one of their VOTE shirts, which they had made to promote greater student involvement in elections. Even though the administration may not value free student speech, we do
