Plague, anyone?

I'm home for the weekend for the Magic Hat Mardi Gras craziness...Vermonters love their micro-brews, especially one as super as Mardi Gras. Those silly little caps with the sayings are in the pocket of every pair of my jeans, offering a nice little bit of home wherever I am. Here are some religious-themed photos, because it's Lent, apparently. As friends and family members struggle to give things up, I'll do this. Europeans appear to love Jesus way more than Americans. With that many plagues you would too, I suppose.

Photos from this weekend will undoubtably be, well, I'll be with The Fifth Business so things are certain to get rowdy. The boys love this video and we can often be found putting the fork in the garbage disposal in inappropriate and public places. Surprising? No.

B&W; Vienna

We were there for 3 hours and accidentally drank a whole lot of spiced rum with our brautwursts. Oops. (Yum!)

"So light, balance - expression must be seen - felt as it were - in a flash..."

Title courtesy of Weston. Today is another snow day (not snowday, sadly), so I will be holed in writing for my various impending literary deadlines.

Prospectiva de Barcelona, Nick Soriano

This is the final project of one of my fellow photographers in Barcelona, who I am fortunate enough to be friends with as well. Watching this makes my heart hurt for my Barcelona family and home.

A Weston Saturday

So yesterday I spent the day in the studio with my photographer friend shooting interpretations of some of Edward Weston's most famous work.We shot film and he's teaching me to develop so none of it will end up here, but I'll include the Weston originals because they are completely sumptuous. These are the ones we recreated. Ours look different for the sole reason that the body is different from the models Weston used, but that is what makes it so exciting; the lighting was really similar, the poses identical, but the photos have a completely different tone because of the subject. Lovely. Enjoy!

God Save the Queen, TFB is coming here tonight.

This week I'm working on two new projects where I get to be in front of the lens and not behind it. Should be very interesting, as it was necessary to send the instructions "turn up the heat and bring a bottle of wine, plus the shotgun" to the photographers. Something very different for me, so I'm slightly nervous but need to do laundry and work out and do some writing because The Fifth Business is coming to Poughkeepsie tonight and I may not survive. God save the Queen.

Oh New York, how you continue to disappoint

I wait for the day when I live in a place where people care. Where they have poetry books on their shelves, the daily paper on their breakfast table, and the motivation to see things differently. That place is not here, where young people merely show off how little they feel. They wear a veil of apathy that reaches to the floor. I feel sad for them. I need patience.

Let me maintain this kind of attitude instead!

Vicarious Valentine

My Valentine is 3000+ miles away so I lived vicariously through Meg and Trey because they are lovely. Valentine's Day is just silly but it's nice to tell my friends (like Meggie) I really like them. Plus I worked so I got lots of hugs and kisses from the kids! Plus more peanut butter on my shirt. What a lovely holiday, eh?

In which we talk about philosophy in the kitchen over a late dinner

I've been studying a lot of philosophy recently, and I'd like to find a way to translate that to film. I had a great talk with Meg after a long day, felt lucky to have smart and strong lady friends. She's got a great look, I'll be shooting her soon! We're also collaborating on a several secret projects that I can't talk about quite yet but are in the works...tell you soon enough!

Also, RIP Alexander McQueen.

Listen and write.

I love the repetition of the archways...such a Gothic staple that is easily overlooked unless it's abstracted like this.
Another shot of Michael from the Montreal photoshoot with Robin Cerutti. Mike got a new external flash for his camera so expect some shots with that from me in the near future.

And so my laptop has returned anew! And clean to boot! Huzzah!

Yes! It's back and I'm so glad, sort of. It didn't end up being a major crisis, and I found that without my computer I had a lot more time for running around and general shenanigans. I did miss being able to edit and post photos though, so here I am.

I spent most of the weekend being joyously glad to be friends with my dance-tastic and life-loving friend Kelsea, with whom I passed the weekend working out zumba style, cooking sumptuous meals and generally enjoying being young.

It's going to blizzard on Wednesday and Thursday and I'm very glad because I need a break that involves not feeling bad about staying in the house, drinking copious amounts of chocolat chaud, and helping Kelsea with her french. Trés bien!

And the saddest of all sad Mondays...

My computer screen died on Monday, so I haven't been posting this week because, well, not being able to see the pictures makes it rather difficult. The nice people over at Apple are going to fix it and send it back to me though, so I shall return next week! Thank you for your patience!
