The Romantic Movement

As I mentioned, I photographed the Romantic Movement, a style and music event co-hosted by the gentlemen of style blog Street Etiquette and MDLN Ventures. I described the whole event HERE if you're curious, and shared some super-dreamy shots HERE already. These are some of my favorite street snaps. I didn't include any photos of the performers; I got some great ones that will have a post of their own. There was incredible layering, pop-art accessories, and lots of other details that were making me swoon all night long. Enjoy!

Green glasses and earrings in the shape of Africa? Oh yeah. The proportions here are perfect.

Leggy, lovely, and in the perfect shoes

Model Jackie Akoko of T.H.E. Agency looking gorgeous in frothy layered earth tones and boots to kill

The most stylish crew of girls of the evening...love. All trends, ever, represented here. Sheers, military, florals, Tangerine Tango, cut-outs, animal prints, and a perfect head wrap. Yes.

This gentleman has a small finger bouquet of flowers in his lapel. Swoon!

This photo. Is. Everything. Love the drama. Miami Vice goes to the disco.

Men in the Rain

Comment

As I said in my contribution for Brightest Young Things this week, I love men, and by that I mean I love photographing men who love pocket squares and vintage work boots and sharp suits and slightly nerdy glasses. Read the rest of my pithy commentary there. It attempts to be slightly witty and marginally informative.

But I'll tell you a tad more about the men in this post. Last week I threw an impromptu meeting of the style minds themed around, completely randomly, llamas. It's a long story. The point is that I got nearly a dozen DC men to get dressed and come out on a rainy night, just to get dressed. And to celebrate llamas, but that's beside the point. People don't believe that DC is stylish and this is a PERFECT example of the exact opposite. In fact, DC men are so excited for an occasion to get dressed, that they will celebrate llamas.

Office Attire: On-Trend Red Pants

Happy Friday!

Here is another work-appropriate look from Whitney, my rockin' work wear touchstone here at my office. RED PANTS! I know people who only wear this color when they go out, and I can see why. This attention-grabbing shade of red has been all over this fall, and love how bright it is. Oxblood will be in come next fall, but for now I'm happy to see so much vibrant color bopping around the office. Rhinestone shoes! Fresh. White. Shirt. So impeccably well done! You can see my other photos of Whitney HERE

I know this is super brief and I've been elusive this week, but I have some amazing projects in the pipe that I can't wait to share. I have 93824902734 more images but I had to clean my house and edit photos. Eep! Real Life, what is THAT?! Hehe, excuses, I know.

But it's the WEEKEND and I swear I'm going to use this time to build our relationship by performing trust falls sharing amazing photos and napping on the couch shooting nonstop! What kinds of photos can you expect? Welllllll last weekend I made friends and went and hung out backstage with pop rock powerhouse Jack's Mannequin and soul god Allen Stone, so you know I'm hyper to share the photos from the edge of the stage to the after after party in the basement of the 9:30 Club. It was the last night of the tour and people were certainly filled with that lovin' feeling. But you have to wait for those! Muahaha. Unless you go to my street style column for Brightest Young Things, in which case you can see a preview of several of my very favorite photos.

GoKateShoot for Washingtonian Magazine: Maggie Hoak

Comment

GREAT NEWS! Today is the launch of the new column I'm shooting for Washingtonian magazine that profiles what stylish DCers are wearing to work to get their sartorial flair on in the board room. I love the process of shooting these; I get to meet intelligent, stylish people, so to their homes, and hang out as long as it takes to photograph them. You know I love talking to any and everyone, so this is a very apt assignment for me.

The first post is on Maggie Hoak, who works for DC culture mecca the Kennedy Center. Though her office attire is filled with twisted basics by Rag & Bone and apt pattern mixes (not unlike her apartment, as you'll see), it is the need for her to own an extensive black tie wardrobe for work that had me all jealous. Here are some of my favorite shots that didn't make it into the column, but check out the whole post with an interview by the unmatched editorial whirlwind Sarah Zlotnick HERE

I loved Maggie's apartment as much as I did her wardrobe, and was particularly jealous of her amazing octopus triptych. You know how I love a good octopus

The What I Wear to Work column will be running every Wednesday, so keep checking back here for my favorite outtakes.
