Creative community is near and dear to my heart, and mine centers around a group of talented, ambitious women. We go to book club, promote each other's projects, attend each other's weddings, hire one other, and generally try to make the doing of creative business in DC a little bit easier and more fun. These women are deeply committed to building the city in which we'd all like to live, constantly raising the bar and creating a diverse melting pot of creative economy. They are the reason I feel welcomed in the city, have my business, and am proud to call DC my home.
Enter The LINE Hotel, a hip boutique hotel in a historic church in Adams Morgan. Highlighting and fostering creative community is core to the mission of Sydell Group, the hospitality company responsible for the project. They tapped our friends for the creative direction, art curation, restaurants, an entire radio station worth of radio show hosts (myself included), and a million tiny details that integrated the hotel into our vivacious community. Brightest Young Things founder and woman of impeccable taste Svetlana Legetic curated the art in the hotel, and called on me to shoot a fine art photo series to be the main art in every room.
I put together an all-female crew, cast two graceful, intelligent muses, and off we went in August 2016 to photograph in a historic farm estate in Virginia. We spent a dreamy day swanning around the old house and traipsing through fields as I happily made romantic pictures in the warm country light. It was perfect.
