My work will be featured in Monochrome Collective's debut exhibition, 'Planes of Reference'. You can join me for the opening reception, or to hear me speak about the work during my artist talk.

The two man show will be on view November 11-19 at A Creative DC (716 Monroe St NE, Studio 8, WDC) and include seven of my fine art photographs alongside works by photographer Adam Davies. The show has been curated and designed by Monochrome Collective founder Nina O’Neil, formerly of National Gallery of Art, the Vatican, and several private galleries. Contemporary classical composer Taylor Ross Jordan will perform an original composition inspired by the artwork.

OPENING RECEPTION: Saturday, November 11, 6-8pm // Open to the public

ARTIST TALK: Thursday, November 16, 6-8pm

HOURS: November 11-19 // Daily 4pm-8pm, Saturdays noon-8pm without appointment // Other availability by appointment: nina@monochromecollective.com or (202) 321-8667

ARTIST STATEMENT: I approach my personal practice as an emotional anthropologist, using photography as a vessel for forging intimate personal connections. The series of photographs in the show features ambient, figureless self portraits that archive feelings and intimate relationships. The atmospheric compositions are charged with a voyeuristic, silent energy that acknowledges the quiescence of vivid self awareness. These images act as testament to the power of isolation to galvanize the raw human need for deep personal bonds.

FotoTalk Nov 12: BANSHEES

2017_FineArt_Kate_Warren_-9.jpg

ARTIST TALK: Sunday, November 12, 3pm // Open to the public

Maggie Famiglietti and I are presenting our feminist, anti-harassment project Banshees at the Mexican Cultural Institute (2829 16th St NW, WDC). We are featured speakers in a series focused on civil rights issues, and will discuss gender in the current socio-political context as shown through our project. We will debut never-before-seen images created in Chicago from our recent collaboration with womanist creative collective Cliche. You can find out more HERE.

Banshees is a feminist-space making and photography project that creates opportunities for woman-identifying creatives to discuss women's issues and express cathartic anger. Catalyzed by the election, we host salon-style feminist discussion groups, and then photograph attendees in aggressive, predatory ways as a method for driving discomfort in the viewer that mirrors the discomfort the subjects themselves feel in their everyday lives.

Women Photojournalists of Washington Juried Exhibition

This image was selected for the Women Photojournalists of Washington (WPOW) juried exhibition. The annual exhibition showcases the stories and lives of women, in women’s voices. WPOW is the largest women's photojournalism organization in the country, and I'm honored to be included with inspiring women that work tirelessly to bring the worlds' most difficult and important stories to light. You can find out more about the exhibit HERE.

OPENING RECEPTION: Monday, Nov 13, 6-8pm // Open to the public

EXHIBITION ON VIEW: Nov 11-19, 10am-6pm daily

Hope to see you at FotoWeek!
