I shot a 70's disco night out, Studio-54 inspired fashion story for Washington Life Magazine a few weeks ago. We had a blast dancing it out to Donna Summer as we took over the corners of the Italian Embassy to shoot looks grounded in big furs, big heels, and bigger hair.
Tear sheets from the magazine are below, along with my favorite digital outtakes and special Polaroids. It's amazing how a simple film photo can kick some serious style ass - I love the ease in those. They came in handy after there was an accident on set...keep reading!
Sometimes the story behind the scenes is even more dramatic than the photos. When we were shooting the second to last look, the model slipped on the fancy Italian marble floors by THE MASERATI parked in front of the Embassy and split her chin. Literal fashion roadkill. Health and safety come first, so we packed up and headed to the ER, gold eyeshadow, picked out fro and all. I stayed with her the entire time, and we giggled and showed the doctors the Polaroids I had in my pocket.
We talked our way into the plastic surgeon's office and got what may have been the world's tiniest stitches, guaranteed not to scar as they healed on the underside of her chin. She's fine and healing nicely, thank goodness! Luckily (and secondarily) we got plenty of photos, she didn't bleed on the Diane von Furstenberg, and everyone ended up happy. Phew!
Big thanks to the Washington Life team for having me!
