Night Out: Incredible Change

August 25, 2014

Friday night I was a busy social bee and scooted around the city to photograph two visual treats for clients. My last stop was DC band Incredible Change's performance at the Art Museum of the Americas.  Created by Brock Boss of Ra Ra Rasputin, Incredible Change creates, "synth-laden electronic dance music influenced by everything from Italian house to early Factory Records...[with] Bauhaus vocals over arpeggiators, syncopated rhythms, chorus-drenched guitar, eliciting kinetic vibrations with a cast of musicians including DeenaOh, Rob Hart, Patrick Kigongo, and Ed Porter." READ: Fancy pants dance party.

It was an interesting blending of my little corners of DC: music friends playing a swanky benefit at a storied institution (which I typically attend while covering society for The Washington Post). I wasn't on for the paper but came out to support and take pictures for the band. You can check out their synth-laden electronic dance music HERE.

This party was a great example of an 'only-in-DC' kind of night that leaves you feeling infinite. The summer air was warm and peppered with a light breeze brought by the rain earlier in the day. Guests were smiling and drunk on Brazilian cocktails as they strolled along the lit fountains and tiled galleries. We took our shoes off and danced barefoot in the gravel in front of the stage with dancers of many ages and nationalities. How often do you get to listen to one of your favorite bands play a perfect set at one of the country's best art museums?

Extra special hugs for my friend Patrick Kigongo, musician and Washingtonian of 14 years who is about to move to LA. This was his last show in the District for now, and I'm pleased and proud of him for taking the leap into his next adventure.

Tally ho, end of summer!
