The next business I profiled for American Express' Small Business Saturday campaign was Gordy's Pickle Jar, a Washington, DC owned and operated pickle company. Founded by Sarah Gordon and Sheila Fain, the delectable pickles have blown up in the last year and are carried by Whole Foods and other retailers.
These ladies are the real deal - they are female entrepreneurs who work hard and are kind, generous and a whole lot of fun. Last year on her birthday, Sarah gave me a present of a jar of pickles when I visited her at the Dupont Farmer's Market, and I've never forgotten how nice a gesture it was. Sarah and Sheila truly live the small business spirit, and focus on delighting their pickle fans in new ways all the time. They've also partnered with Morgan Hungerford West of Panda Head blog/mag/DIY guru to take the lead on creative direction, visuals, and social marketing so everything looks effortlessly awesome with a personality-filled wink.
Obviously I can't help but fan girl a bit; I always have a few jars in my fridge and have been known to binge on them while on an editing spree. ;) Click through the gallery below for more photos.
