Cover Shoot: The Washington Post FW Magazine

December 11, 2013

I'm excited to announce this editorial cover shoot! I did this shoot for The Washington Post FW Magazine, The Post's quarterly fashion magazine December issue. Excited? Me too! The team was creative, young, and fun so the two day shoot was a blast.

The story is about a young couple getting ready for a big holiday night, and that involves running lots of (fabulously clad) errands about town. The first day of the shoot was on location at Union Market, where we stopped by Red Apron Butcher for a steak, Cordial for wine, and outside for a Capital Bikeshare filled with roses. After that we popped over to Wise Owl Club for an afternoon in one of DC's most stylish boys clubs. The second day was on location in the home of GoodWood owners Anna and Dan, whose Blagden Alley carriage house would leave anyone swooning.

The lighting was two or three light set-ups with softboxes for most shots. The bike shot outside was done with a boomed in Photek and hotshoe despite gale-force winds and me deciding the best shot would have to be taken from the middle of 4 lanes of traffic on 6th St NE (thank you Josh and Travis for protecting me from oncoming traffic!). The sitting room shot was an extra that we dreamed up on the spot after the afternoon light got so good on day two that we couldn't not do a natural light photo. Pretty straight-forward all around, since I wanted to let the clothes and narrative come through. Extra special thanks to my assistants Josh Yospyn and Travis Vaugh for being gear-hauling, problem solving bosses.

Super thanks to FW Creative Director Adam Griffiths, Editor Jennifer Barger, and Assistant Editor Holley Simmons for producing the shoot, stylist Cathy Phillips Starnes and her assistant Jasmin Mason (so many pretty goodies!), and makeup artist Connie Tsang and hair stylist Kim Reyes for making our models Kasia Gasek and Jonah Taylor look awesome.

The magazine went out to subscribers last weekend, but you can also pick up a copy around town at THESE LOCATIONS. Cover is above, and the inside story is below. Hope you enjoy!
