The December issue of DC Magazine is hot off the presses, and I'm excited to share several of my photos that are featured!
The first is a photo I took at the VIP preview of Mia Feuer's opening at the Corcoran Gallery. Mia is the first DC-based artist to be selected for their NOW program that showcases emerging contemporary artists, and I'm proud to call her a friend. The photo shows the scale and magnitude of her installation art, highlighting the interactive elements like the skating rink. With low gallery light, a wide stance and steady hand were the tools used to take this available light shot. Not an easy feat in 5 inch heels!
The next is a photo commissioned by the magazine - I went on assignment to the HRC national dinner, and returned with some fun photos of Jennifer Lopez working the red carpet as part of the mix. The photo was taken with a speed light flash with a flash bender modifier hand held off camera left for added punch and drama.
Outside of my social reportage, I was commissioned to shoot some portraits of my partner Martin Swift, who was one of the art issue's featured artists. You can see the two selects above and HERE, and my favorite outtakes below. For shoots like this we tend to shoot multiple set ups and variations to give the editorial and creative teams some options to work this. Diversity is the spice of life, right? Many thanks to Martin's collector Joff Masukawa for generously hosting our shoot!
