I was tickled when I found out that I was photographing Melissa Burgos for Refinery29's Real Girl Real Beauty feature - which hilariously was when I arrived at her house. My editor hadn't mentioned exactly who we were featuring, so I was delighted when Mel was the one who opened the door! We had a blast documenting her amazing beauty routine (polished, but natural), her insane shoe collection (she used to work for Dolce & Gabbana, and has a shoe wall!!), and super-sparkly personality. It comes through perfectly in the photos, which are some of my ALL TIME FAVORITES I've taken while on assignment for Refinery29: she's one of the friendliest, most genuine people I have the pleasure of knowing, and I'm so pleased to be able to share these with you.
You can check out the full feature HERE and my favorite outtakes below. I had THREE TIMES as many usable proofs as I usually do for these shoots, simply because Mel is so effervescently herself, so there are lots of awesome photos. Of course, we had to do the bed-jumping photos as an homage to Solange at the end to celebrate a great shoot. Fun! Enjoy, and have a great Monday.
